About
eResearch allows researchers from all disciplines to work seamlessly from desk-to-desk, within and between organisations and across the globe.
Rapid advancements in the field of information communication technology (ICT) have, and continue to revolutionise the way we perceive and interact with knowledge.
The research sector worldwide is experiencing enormous and unprecedented change driven by increasing access to:
-
Broadband communications networks, research instruments and facilities, sensor networks and data repositories
-
Software and infrastructure services that enable secure connectivity and interoperability
-
Application tools that encompass discipline-specific tools and interaction tools
eResearch is the application of information management and communications technologies to carry out better and more efficient research and collaborative practices. By employing eResearch technologies, researchers are able to draw on perspectives and resources from a range of participants from a range of disciplines, in order to develop new insights and new solutions to complex problems.
Research is increasingly characterised by national and international multi-disciplinary collaboration and most OECD countries and APEC members are investing heavily in those capabilities and the associated coordinating mechanisms.
What is eResearch?
The term eResearch encapsulates the evolving research activities that use a spectrum of (ICT) capabilities to:
-
Enable management of complex research models
-
Automate labour intensive processes
-
Improve access to knowledge and information to collaborate more effectively
For over fifteen years, JCU has been a leader in the field of cutting edge computational research, developing tools to allow researchers of varied disciplines and locales to obtain and disseminate information effectively online.
Our custom built eResearch applications provide secure environments for collaborative team-based activities with access to features including web content mangement, data repositories, forums, blogs, wikis and surveys.
We are currently working on a number of Projects based around:
- Collaborative workspaces
- Sensor network management
- Instrument management
- Web-enabled workflow applications
Our specialised applications are developed through intensive research, drawing on the dynamic skills of JCU researchers, as well as national and international partners. While we are focused on supporting any application area, we are particularly interested in supporting research and activities that are relevant to North Queensland and Tropical regions in general.
